Leonard E. Kountz, age 89, of Salt Sulphur Springs, WV, went home to be the Lord on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at his residence following a long illness. Born December 17, 1931 at Salt Sulphur Springs, WV, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Margaret Pritchard Kountz. Leonard loved his country and served it proudly in the U.S. Airforce. He retired at the rank of Master Sargent following 20 years of faithful service. Following his Military retirement, Leonard worked as a building contractor, building many projects for people in and around Monroe County. Leonard loved the Lord and was a devoted Christian and a man of character. He was always willing to share God’s word to anyone and he leaves behind a great testimony for his family and friends to cherish.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant children; one brother, James Kountz; one sister and brother-in-law, Claudette Conn and husband Marvin. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 plus years, Bernitta Lundstedt Kountz of Salt Sulphur Springs, WV; three children, Kathryn Oliver and husband Mark of Elgin, IL, David Kountz and wife Debby of Forest, VA, and Rebecca Gorton and husband Mark of Hustonville, KY; one brother, Jerry Kountz and wife Sally of Supply, NC; fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with David Kountz officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hedding Cemetery at Lillydale, WV, where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 4, 2021 from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
