WASHINGTON DC (LOOTPRESS) – President Donald Trump on Friday announced that he is invalidating all executive orders and documents signed during President Joe Biden’s administration that were authorized using an autopen — a mechanical device used to replicate a signature. The declaration, posted on Trump’s Truth Social account, marks the latest escalation in his long-running criticism of Biden’s document-signing practices.
In his post, Trump asserted that “any document signed” by Biden with the aid of an autopen “is hereby terminated, and of no further force or effect.” He claimed the device was used “illegally” and argued that Biden was not personally involved in the signing process. Trump went further, warning that if Biden maintains he directly authorized autopen signatures, he should face “charges of perjury.”
According to the American Presidency Project, Biden signed 162 executive orders while in office. It remains unclear how many, if any, were completed using an autopen — a tool that has been used by multiple presidents for decades. The Justice Department under President George W. Bush concluded in 2005 that a president may legally use an autopen to sign legislation.
Since returning to office on Jan. 20, Trump has moved swiftly to unravel Biden’s policy legacy. The White House reports that Trump canceled nearly 70 Biden executive orders in the first days of his second term and rescinded another 19 on March 14.
Trump has repeatedly questioned Biden’s use of the device, previously ordering a federal inquiry into whether the Biden administration relied on an autopen for official acts such as pardons. He has alleged — without presenting evidence — that the practice was part of a broader effort to conceal Biden’s cognitive condition.
Biden dismissed those claims in a July statement as “nothing more than distraction,” defending the authenticity of all actions taken during his presidency. “I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations,” he said. “Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false.”
Last month, House Republicans released a report criticizing Biden’s use of the autopen, though it offered no definitive proof that aides acted without Biden’s authorization.
Trump has acknowledged that he, too, has used an autopen during his time in office, but insisted it was reserved “only for very unimportant papers.”
