ANSTED, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Colby A. Lopez of Ansted has formally declared his candidacy for the West Virginia House of Delegates, seeking election in District 51 during the 2026 election cycle.
District 51 includes parts of Fayette County.
Lopez, a retail worker and community member, is running as a Democrat. His campaign states that it will prioritize constituent-focused governance and emphasize accountability to voters.
According to the campaign, Lopez aims to challenge entrenched party politics while focusing on issues affecting working people.
The announcement follows a previously declared period of pre-candidacy and comes after the completion of organizational, compliance, and campaign preparation steps.
The campaign also cited continued engagement with residents across the district as a factor in the decision to move forward with an official candidacy.
Lopez’s platform is rooted in his working-class background and centers on the campaign theme, “People First. Fair Economy. Clean Future.”
Policy priorities outlined by the campaign include equitable economic development through investment in underfunded communities, fiscal responsibility to ensure effective use of public funds, and long-term sustainability aimed at protecting the state’s environment and quality of life.
The campaign said voter outreach and communications efforts will continue throughout Fayette County in the coming weeks.
Lopez was the only Democrat to file in the 51st district and will face the winner of the Republican primary which includes incumbent Delegate Marshall Clay, businessman Dan Hill, and political newcomer Cy Persinger.
