CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Health’s (DH) Bureau for Public Health (BPH) is calling on residents to help shape the future of public health in the Mountain State by participating in the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) phone survey.
“The data collected through these surveys empowers our public health officials to identify trends, develop targeted programs, and strategically allocate resources where they are most needed to improve the overall well-being of West Virginians,” shared Secretary of Health Dr. Arvin Singh. “We encourage you to participate as every completed survey contributes valuable information that supports the creation of healthier communities across our state.”
Since 1984, the BRFSS has served as a cornerstone of health surveillance in West Virginia, providing essential data to understand the unique health challenges, needs, behaviors, and concerns of residents. This confidential telephone survey, conducted in close collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), allows West Virginia to track health-related trends and gather insights that are otherwise unavailable through clinical records.
Residents aged 18 and older may be randomly selected to receive a call from trained BPH interviewers between Monday and Saturday. Participation is entirely voluntary and all responses are kept strictly confidential.
The survey is designed to be dynamic meaning, each year, questions are updated to address emerging issues and specific state needs. Recent survey topics have included critical areas such as Hepatitis A, traumatic brain injuries related to ATV use, and substance usage.
