MOUNT LOOKOUT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An injured rock climber was rescued Friday afternoon following a technical rope rescue operation along the Meadow River near Mount Lookout.
According to the Wilderness Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters and Jan-Care Ambulance Service were dispatched at approximately 2 p.m. to reports of an injured climber in the area.
Emergency crews reached the patient by using side-by-side vehicles and hiking through steep, rugged terrain. Due to the difficult conditions, additional rope rescue personnel were requested to assist with the operation.
The patient was found in stable condition. Rescuers used a high-line rope rescue system, a Stokes basket and a litter wheel to safely extricate the patient from the remote location.
Once the patient was brought to accessible terrain, they were transported by side-by-side to a waiting ambulance for further medical care.
Additional agencies assisting with the rescue included the Keslers Cross Lanes, Summersville, Quinwood, Ansted and Fayetteville fire departments.
According to the Wilderness Volunteer Fire Department, the rescue operation took approximately two hours.
