BEAVER,. WV (LOOTPRESS) – New River Community and Technical College has announced the field for the 9th Annual New River CTC Invitational, scheduled for January 4-9, 2027, at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
The six-day event has grown into one of West Virginia’s premier high school basketball events, bringing boys and girls teams from across the state to southern West Virginia while raising funds for student scholarships through the New River Community and Technical College Foundation.
The field announced to date includes teams representing 26 high schools:
Bluefield, Greater Beckley Christian, Greenbrier East, Greenbrier West, Herbert Hoover, Huntington, Independence, James Monroe, Liberty, Lincoln, Man, Nicholas County, Nitro, PikeView, Princeton, Ripley, Scott, Shady Spring, Sherman, South Harrison, Summit Christian Academy, Summers County, University, Webster County, Woodrow Wilson and Wyoming East.
The Invitational will also welcome back the West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) Golden Bears men’s and women’s basketball teams for their second appearance in the event. With several student athletes from southern West Virginia and the surrounding region, WVU Tech’s participation also provides an opportunity to continue strengthening the partnership between the two institutions and expanding post-secondary educational opportunities for students throughout the regions they serve.
Additional teams may be announced as the field and schedule are finalized.
“The Invitational has grown tremendously over the past nine years, both in the quality of basketball and in the impact it has on students,” said Michael Green, Vice President of External Affairs, Executive Director of the New River CTC Foundation and Tournament Director. “What makes this event special is the generosity of our sponsors and the opportunity to turn six days of great high school basketball into meaningful scholarship support. Their investment benefits the participating teams, their communities and, most importantly, students pursuing their education at New River CTC.”
The Invitational serves as an important annual fundraising initiative for the New River CTC Foundation. This year, the Foundation awarded more than a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships to deserving New River CTC students. Sponsor support also allows the Foundation to provide a $1,000 scholarship on behalf of each participating team and post-game meals for participating student athletes.
With the 2027 field taking shape, the Foundation is launching its sponsorship campaign for the 9th Annual Invitational. Opportunities are available at several levels, including presenting sponsorships, and offer businesses and organizations an opportunity to support student scholarships while receiving recognition throughout the six-day event.
“Our sponsors are essential to the success of the Invitational and to the impact we are able to make through this event,” said Kayla Saunders, Director of Business Development and Fundraising. “We are excited to begin working with returning sponsors and developing new partnerships with businesses and organizations that share our commitment to students and education. Every sponsorship helps us build on the success of the Invitational while expanding the scholarship support we can provide.”
Businesses and organizations interested in sponsorship opportunities for the 9th Annual New River CTC Invitational should contact Kayla Saunders, Director of Business Development and Fundraising, at 304-929-5001 or [email protected].
