ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Concord University and the Summit Bechtel Reserve have created a mutually beneficial partnership designed to offer students real-world internship opportunities in hospitality, tourism, and service, while providing the Summit Bechtel Reserve with enthusiastic, motivated individuals to power summer operations.
The Summit Bechtel Reserve-Concord University Internship Pipeline was recently established to assist Concord students in gaining realistic, practical experience in fields related to recreation and service and help in coordinating the myriad activities and events that take place at the reserve near Glen Jean.
“Students will gain practical, professional, and teamwork skills to advance their development, while SBR benefits from motivated individuals to operate our summer operations,” the organizational agreement states. “Both parties recognize that SBR is not the final destination for students’ careers, but it is a launching point to build confidence and experience for future opportunities elsewhere.”
Interns will gain entry experience by following the standard employment application process at Summit.
“We are excited to forge this partnership with Summit Bechtel Reserve. It gives Concord University students valuable hands-on experience while building the confidence, professional skills, and connections they need for future career success,” Dr. Allison Bean, chair of the Kendra S. Boggess Department of Business, said.
In accordance with the pipeline guidelines, the Summit Bechtel Reserve will offer:
- Paid internships for CU Business students who work 60 days during the summer;
- Mentorship with experienced staff members and managers;
- Letters of completion and reference as needed;
- Scholarship opportunities.
Concord University also agrees to:
- Promote the pipeline to eligible students and faculty;
- Integrate the program into work-based learning and credit options;
- Provide feedback on student-learning outcomes.
As a result of the agreement, both Concord and Summit Bechtel Reserve hope to harvest mutually beneficial results, including professional students who have completed their academic careers and gained practical experience and references to augment their resumes.
Both parties will work together to establish a reputation as a training ground for future recreation and tourism professionals, while building a long-term recruitment relationship with enhanced student-career outcomes in a safe, structured environment for internship and externship placements.
