JEFFREY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Boone County father admitted using methamphetamine while caring for his two young children, according to a police complaint filed after troopers responded to a disturbance call Monday.
Troopers arrived at a home on Spruce River Road in Jeffrey around 1:46 p.m. October 12, 2026, and encountered Newton Castle and his children, ages 6 and 8.
According to the complaint, Castle told officers his ex-wife and her boyfriend were living underneath the home and that he could hear their voices. The children also appeared frightened and expressed concern that someone was beneath the residence.
Troopers reported that Castle displayed signs they believed were consistent with methamphetamine use, along with paranoia.
While one trooper accompanied Castle outside to inspect an area where he believed someone was entering beneath the home, another remained inside with the children.
In an unsecured rear bedroom, the officer reported finding a glass plate holding a credit card and suspected methamphetamine residue. Both children had unrestricted access to the room, according to the complaint.
When questioned, Castle initially denied involvement before admitting he had consumed methamphetamine and was still feeling its effects, police said.
Castle then told officers there could be additional methamphetamine in a bedroom drawer. A trooper reported finding a prescription pill bottle containing two straws and a plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine in that location.
The complaint states that Castle’s behavior and the suspected drugs within the children’s reach raised concerns for their safety. The provided document does not identify any charges or indicate whether Castle was arrested.
