MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Law enforcement officers executed search warrants at two West Virginia University fraternity houses as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged hazing activities.
According to CBS News, officers searched the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity house along North High Street in Morgantown, weeks after the fraternity was placed on interim suspension following multiple reports of hazing.
Video captured by WVU’s student newspaper, The Daily Athenaeum, showed a large crowd of students gathering outside the fraternity house as officers conducted the search.
The footage also showed law enforcement officials leaving the building carrying what appeared to be bags of evidence.
WVU Police confirmed that officers were serving search warrants in connection with an ongoing investigation into hazing allegations.
Morgantown Police Chief Eric Powell said officers from his department were also at the scene to assist university police, according to CBS News.
Authorities confirmed that search warrants were also executed at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house along Belmar Avenue in Morgantown.
Earlier this month, Lambda Chi Alpha was placed on interim suspension after the university received multiple reports of alleged hazing activities.
“Due to the nature of the investigations, no other details will be released at this time,” WVU Police said. “We will provide updates as they become available.”
Authorities have not released additional details about the allegations, what evidence may have been collected or whether criminal charges are expected.
The investigation remains ongoing.
