GLEN JEAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – New River Gorge National Park and Preserve has announced that two roads within the park will close for several months beginning in November as crews conduct road construction and maintenance.
According to park officials, Cunard Road will close from November 9, 2026, through March 25, 2027, as crews continue construction work that has been underway during the past two winters.
The closure will begin just beyond the Brooklyn Mine Trail parking lot and extend to the Cunard river access area, Angler’s Access, and Brooklyn Campground.
Vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians will be prohibited from traveling beyond the closure point. River access in the affected area will also be closed during construction.
The Brooklyn Miner’s Trail and Kaymoor Trail will remain open throughout the project. However, park officials advise hikers to use caution due to heavy equipment operating nearby.
Additionally, Glade Creek Road will close from November 10, 2026, through March 25, 2027, for road maintenance.
That closure will begin just beyond Grandview Sandbar Campground, which will remain open for camping throughout the construction period.
However, Glade Creek Campground and the Glade Creek Trailhead will be closed for the duration of the project.
Park officials said the extent and nature of the construction require the closures to ensure work can be completed.
New River Gorge National Park and Preserve thanked visitors for their patience while the road improvements are underway.
Both roads are scheduled to reopen following the completion of the winter construction period in March 2027.
