CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Charleston Fire Department was notified of a structure fire on Washington Street West in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Reports from the Charleston Fire Department indicated that a Charleston Police Officer patrolling the Washington Street area observed smoke from the fire prior to alarm systems having been activated by the fire itself.
Having been notified before the situation got out of hand, the Charleston Fire Department were able to contain the fire to a single room, significantly decreasing the amount of damage that could have been done.
“This early notification by CPD allowed the responding fire units to arrive quickly and contain the fire to the kitchen area and helped to reduce the amount of potential damage,” a statement read.
The precise location of the incident was 207 Washington Street West in Charleston, the location of the Gonzoburger eatery.
The cause of the fire and whether there is any connection with the Fourth of July fireworks celebrations going on at the time is unclear at this time, and the cause of the incident is currently being investigated by the Charleston Fire Department Fire Marshalls.
