Tell us a little bit about yourself and your experience/accomplishments
I am George Boogie Ambler, & I am a retired GBC school teacher. I retired after 25 years of service to the students of our county. My previous career was a heavy construction worker on numerous highway projects before entering my teaching profession. I am a cattle farmer, a business man and a 6-year member of the 2012-2018 WV House of Delegates. My wife, Vicky, and I have 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Besides being happily married for 56 years. We have resided in Fort Springs, WV on our farm for 50 years.
⁃ What motivated you to run for House of Delegates, or if you’re an incumbent, what made you seek reelection?
My previous time in WV House of Delegates was prompted by wanting to change the direction that WV was heading by the other parties ruling. I have chosen to return as a candidate in 2024 to an open 47th district seat. When I left the house in 2018, there were a number of projects to help improve our area on the table that were never realized because I chose to run for the 10th senate seat, and lost. Bring out of the house for 6 years has given me a new perspective on the needs of a single district rather than a 3 county district.
⁃ What are some issues affecting West Virginia currently that you would like to see addressed and fixed? How would you fix those issues?
The needs of WV, sadly seem to be similar to years prior. We still need job opportunities for our workforce, new business investment, better work ethics, educated students in today’s job requirements, outreach programs for our children to be better informed to make decisions concerning their life choices, and of course our addiction problem. In 2014, when the republicans took control of our state legislature, we started addressing these issues and have made remarkable progress in all of these areas. I would continue to use the people in our communities who are knowledgeable along with our state committees to seek out solutions that result in successful program adaptations. I would encourage continuing and expanding the programs we have to a higher level of achievement by providing funds as needed.
⁃ What makes you stand out from the rest of the candidates, what do you bring to the table that they don’t?
My diverse experience in heavy construction, farming, the real estate business, teaching and being a business man allows me to bring experiences to the table that would and does lead to sound decisions on making and voting on the issues faced by our delegates. I have experience on the house major committees of Education, Energy, Finance, Minor Committees of Transportation, Agriculture, Broad Ban, vice chairman of the natural resources and chairman of the state flood committee. My work ethics and experiences give me the ability to start working from day 1 of the new 2024 legislative session. I will not need, On The Job Training.
⁃ Is there anything else voters should know about you and your campaign?
I am like “dog after a bone” when I begin a project or a concerned constituent issue and I will continue that attitude and effort after being elected back to the 47th district WV House of Delegates seat from GBC. I am campaigning to get my job back.
