Here are your candidates
- Cyrus Goodson, Independence – Goodson made the most of his touches Friday, catching two passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns while registering one rushing attempt that resulted in a 44-yard rushing touchdown.
- Jalon Bailey, Shady Spring – Bailey caught a 47-yard touchdown pass, intercepted a pass and broke up five more passes for a Shady defense that held PikeView to six points in a 26-6 Tiger victory.
- Layton Dowdy, James Monroe – Dowdy was 10-of-16 passing for 170 yards and three touchdowns while also registering 21 yards rushing on six carries. His efforts helped lead the Mavericks to a 41-22 victory.
- Ethan Vargo-Thomas, Oak Hill – Oak Hill rarely passes so Vargo-Thomas made the most of it when the Red Devils took to the air. The senior caught four passes for 70 yards and three touchdowns, rushed seven times for 54 yards and nailed four of his five extra point attempts.
- Cody Harrell, Midland Trail – Harrell hauled in eight passes for 76 yards, scoring the deciding touchdown on a 1-yard slant pattern on fourth down in the fourth quarter. The Patriots won 13-12.
- Ethan Holliday, Greenbrier West – One of the top defensive players in the area made his mark on a historic performance Friday night. Holliday intercepted two passes, returning one for a touchdown, picked up eight tackles, assisted on five more and registered three tackles for a loss. For good measure he turned his one carry of the night into an 11-yard touchdown run as the Cavaliers shutout their fifth straight opponent to set the program record for most consecutive shutouts to open a season.
- Caleb Fuller, Bluefield – Fuller was 12-of-22 passing Friday, throwing for 124 yards and a touchdown. He also turned nine carries into 71 yards and a touchdown in the Beavers’ 26-10 win over Richlands.
