PINEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A change in leadership looks to be on the horizon for the Town of Pineville as Mayor Toby Lane has announced his resignation from the position.
It was revealed through a press release shared Monday by the Town of Pineville that, on February 8, 2023, Mayor Lane had indicated his intention to resign from his position effective February 28, 2023
The change comes as Lane apparently shifts focus to other endeavors, as it has been stated the former local leader will be dedicating time to a new employment opportunity with Komatsu Mining Corp.
“In December I was offered a promotion to the position of America’s Warehouse Manager for Komatsu,” began the statement, which was addressed to members of the Pineville Town Council.
Within the statement, Lane cites a lack of time and energy to fulfill the duties of both the position and Town Mayor as a primary motivating factor in his decision to step down.
”I accepted this position with hopes I could manage both my new career and my position as Mayor. In my new position my workload and my responsibility have doubled. This promotion will also require that I travel with very little notice.
With this being said, I will be resigning from my position as Mayor effective 02/28/2023. I just cannot in good faith be in this role knowing that I will not have the time and energy to dedicate to this position.
Thank you all for the experience that I have gained over the past 7 months”
Lane was initially elected to the position in June, securing a victory of Jason Smyth who trailed by only a few votes.
At the time of writing, indication has not been given by the Town of Pineville regarding a successor for Mayor in the wake of Lane’s resignation, though Town Recorder Vicki Knight Clay is reportedly filling the role until a replacement is determined.
