BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission convened for an eventful session on Tuesday which saw a motion passed for approval of a grant to the Theatre West Virginia program.
The motion came shortly after a number of rezoning and drawdown considerations and was approved in the amount of $8,000 which will reportedly go toward improvement of the performance theater through the purchase of lights and sound equipment to upgrade the organization’s current setup.
Recently appointed Theatre West Virginia General Manager Gayle Oakes, whose appointment was announced in March, was present during the session and addressed the grant as well as the upcoming season of Theatre West Virginia performances.
“We’re excited to use this money to upgrade some speakers and some soundboards and make an amazing show,” said Oakes, who will be overseeing her first season of Theatre West Virginia in the role of General Manager this summer. It was also revealed that rehearsals are currently underway with cast members having arrived on Monday to get to work.
“If you didn’t see the news last night, our cast arrived yesterday, and they started rehearsal,” she continued. “We have 50 people out there right now rehearsing and getting ready for the season. We’re doing Hatfields and McCoys and then Rocket Boys starting on July 14th. We’ll bringing back Phil Dirt and the Dozers on the 20th.”
