WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Appalachian Power says crews are preparing to respond to possible power outages as severe storms move through its service area Monday afternoon and evening.
The company said the storms could produce wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph, heavy rainfall and localized flooding, potentially resulting in downed trees, damaged power lines and outages.
According to Appalachian Power, some of the areas that could be hardest hit include Charleston, Huntington and Wheeling in West Virginia. Locally strong storms are also possible south of Beckley and into Virginia and the Kingsport, Tennessee, area.
Appalachian Power said crews are preparing to respond to outages as safely and quickly as possible.
Residents are encouraged to remain weather aware and use caution around any downed power lines or damaged electrical equipment as storms pass through the region.
