MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Morgantown, in collaboration with the Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation (BOPARC), will host an Arbor Day celebration on Oct. 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Jack Roberts Park.
The event will include the reading of an official Arbor Day proclamation and the planting of three trees: a White Oak, Red Maple, and White Dogwood.
Following the tree planting, the Morgantown Tree Board will lead an educational tree walk, highlighting the ecological significance of trees and offering tips on proper tree care.
Morgantown’s Urban Landscape Director, Marchetta Maupin, explained the essential role trees play in maintaining a healthy environment.
“They clean our air, filter our water, and play a substantial role in reducing stormwater runoff,” Maupin said.
“Trees provide shade and cool our cities by up to 10 degrees, while beautifying our city. We welcome everyone to join us.”
Bree Starsick, BOPARC Division Director of Marketing and Communications, expressed excitement about the collaboration.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate the importance of trees and their impact on our environment.”
Jack Roberts Park, known for its open green space, is one of Morgantown’s most popular gathering spots.
