What’s happening?
AT&T has agreed to a proposed $177 million settlement to resolve class-action lawsuits arising from two major data breaches in 2024. The settlement is currently pending court approval, with a hearing scheduled for December 3, 2025.
Who’s affected?
-
First breach (March 2024): Affected around 7.6 million current and 65.4 million former customers whose sensitive personal information—like Social Security numbers, email addresses, and account details—surfaced on the dark web.
-
Second breach (July 2024): Involved unauthorized access to call and text logs of nearly all AT&T customers (2022–2023). No personal identifiers or message content were exposed.
Potential compensation:
-
Up to $5,000 for losses tied to the first breach
-
Up to $2,500 for losses from the second breach
-
Eligible individuals for both may receive up to $7,500, provided they submit separate, documented claims for each incident
