HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A domestic dispute turned violent in the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, 2025, leading to a shooting that left one man injured and a woman with head trauma. The alleged shooter, 26-year-old Hunter Crislip, is now facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder.
At approximately 4:04 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a reported shooting at Henderson Lane. Prior to arrival, dispatchers warned responding units that the suspect was possibly armed with both a shotgun and a baseball bat and was still inside the residence.
Upon arrival, the responding deputy used the patrol car loudspeaker to issue commands. Crislip emerged from the residence unarmed and was immediately detained. As the scene unfolded, deputies located the two victims, who were taking cover behind a nearby vehicle. One victim appeared to have sustained head trauma, and the other victim was suffering from a gunshot wound that had entered through his back and exited his chest.
Emergency medical services were notified and began treatment once the suspect was in custody. Two young children, belonging to Crislip and the female victim, were removed from the residence and transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital. Child protective services (D.H.H.R.) granted law enforcement custody of the children at the scene.
According to investigators, Crislip claimed the incident stemmed from ongoing tensions with the male victim, who is the female victim’s boyfriend. Crislip said that earlier in the evening, the three met at a Walmart parking lot to discuss their issues, a meeting that allegedly involved the male victim’s father and a firearm. Later, the trio reconvened at the Henderson Lane residence to talk over drinks, which escalated into a physical altercation.
Crislip told deputies that during the fight, which began in the living room and spilled into the kitchen, he retrieved a loaded shotgun and fired a round inside the home, missing the male victim. He then struck him with the butt of the shotgun before reloading. The fight moved outside, where Crislip fired again, striking at the man.
Following the shooting, Crislip was transported to the sheriff’s field office, where he underwent a gunshot residue test and provided a full recorded statement. He was read his Miranda rights both on scene and again at the station, which he acknowledged and waived.
After consulting with Cabell County Prosecutor Jason Spears, Crislip was formally charged with two counts of wanton endangerment, malicious assault, and attempted murder. The investigation remains ongoing.
