BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A local cemetery will see inclusion on a proposed agenda for consideration for nomination to the National Register of HIstoric Places.
Wright Hunter Cemetery, located on Antonio Avenue in Raleigh County, will be considered for its historical value by the West Virginia Archives and History Commission at its upcoming winter meeting, scheduled to take place on February 21, 2024, at the Culture Center in Charleston, WV.
The news was shared at the Tuesday evening meeting of Beckley City Council by Councilwoman Bullock, who has been spearheading efforts to recognize the site for over half a decade.
“I am just so excited that we’re going to have this – one of the oldest black cemeteries in Beckley – that’s going to be on the National Register of Historic Places,” the Councilwoman declared to a round of applause by those in attendance for the session.
