BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Beckley man has been charged with burglary after DNA evidence linked him to a break-in earlier this year, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Beckley Police Department.
The incident occurred on February 3, 2025, when Officer Pfc. Jennings responded to a report of a burglary at a foreclosed home in Beckley.
The victim, a contractor hired to perform work at the residence, reported that upon returning to the property that morning, he noticed several items had been moved and his diesel heater—valued at over $200—was missing.
During a walkthrough of the residence with the officer, the victim pointed out a black ski mask lying on the kitchen floor.
He stated the mask did not belong to him or his coworker and was not present when they last left the property on January 31.
He also noted that the rear door, previously locked, was found open and could be easily manipulated to gain entry.
The ski mask was collected and logged into evidence. On April 7, 2025, the West Virginia State Police Crime Lab informed the Beckley Police Department of a DNA match through the CODIS (Combined DNA Index System).
The DNA found on the mask matched that of Fred Michael Hamrick, who had been previously entered into the system due to prior convictions.
As a result of the DNA match, Hamrick was charged with burglary.
Hamrick is currently at Southern Regional Jail on a $30,000 bond.
