BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Beckley mother left her covid-sick toddler in the car for over two hours while she played pool.
On September 21, 2024, at approximately 6:56 p.m., officers responded to a child neglect complaint at the Family Coin Laundry located at 3704 Robert C. Byrd Drive in Beckley. Upon arrival, officers found a 3-year-old juvenile female alone in the back seat of a dark-colored Honda Civic with West Virginia registration NXP926. The car’s front driver-side window was down.
The child’s guardian, later identified as Diane Aydelott, was in the laundromat playing pool with another juvenile. She claimed she had left the child in the car because the child was sick with COVID-19, and she did not want to infect others. The defendant stated the child had only been left alone for 20 minutes.
However, a store employee reviewed security footage, revealing that the defendant had been inside the store since 4:23 p.m., leaving the juvenile unattended for approximately two hours and 41 minutes.
The defendant is facing charges related to child neglect.
