BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Officials with the Beckley Police Department excitedly announced on social media, the Junior Police Academy is now accepting applications!
Accepted applicants will participate in a week long program designed to help students better understand police through education. Students will learn directly from law enforcement officers with demonstrations and hands-on learning experiences. Students will be able to see the day-to-day responsibilities and duties officers complete every day.
The Junior Police Academy is no cost and open to students aged 11 to 14 years old, current 5th graders through incoming 9th graders. Students wishing to apply will need to pickup the Junior Police Academy applications at the Beckley Police Department. Applications may be mailed to 501 Neville St. Beckley, WV 25801, addressed to Sgt. Wall, faxed to (304)256-4642 addressed to Sgt. Wall or emailed to jwall@beckleypd.com
Students interested must be between 11-14 years old, a resident of Raleigh County, no truancy issues, no misdemeanor or felony arrests, alcohol and drug free, and have no school discipline issues. Students will be provided an Academy t-shirt that is required to wear each day. Lunch will not be provided to each student.
