CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A bill introduced in the West Virginia House of Delegates this week would impose a life sentence on individuals who are convicted of dealing fentanyl.
House Bill 2847, introduced by Delegate Geno Chiarelli (R-Monongalia), would amend portions of state code to change the current 3-15 year sentence to the remainder of one’s life for distributing fentanyl.
According to the bill, any person who violates the law knowing that the controlled substance classified in Schedule II is fentanyl, either alone or in combination with any other substance shall be imprisoned in a state correctional facility for the remainder of their life.
The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Prevention and Treatment of Substance Abuse and will then go to the House Judiciary Committee.
