BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Beckley has announced a Special Meeting this week at which replacement candidates will be discussed for the Interim City Manager position.
Following the shift from a Strong Mayor form of government to the City Manager form government, the city has been seeking qualified candidates to fill the City Manager role for several months. This led to the appointment of former Treasurer Billie Trump to role on a temporary basis.
Trump has been heavily involved in city matters for a number of years, but is looking to step down according to City of Beckley Mayor, Ryan Neal, who advised that Trump had intended to remain in the position of Interim City Manager until the conclusion of August.
“I think he has been ready for retirement for a while, but we talked him in to being Interim City Manager,” Mayor Neal told LOOTPRESS on Tuesday. “Unfortunately the hiring process has taken longer than expected.”
The Mayor also confirmed that Wednesday’s 8:00am Special Meeting of City Council will see discussion of potential replacements for the position.
Councilman At-Large, Cody Reedy confirmed Trump’s decision to step down, indicating that the representative’s final day in the role was Friday.
“We will be meeting at 8:00am to approve a new interim City Manager who will serve until the new full time City Manager takes [their] place hopefully sometime in October or [the] beginning of November,” Reedy tells LOOTPRESS.
Though city officials are hopeful that a qualified candidate will be secured in the coming months, Mayor Neal has indicated that it is currently unclear precisely how long the process may take.
