WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Board of Education has declared a state of emergency for Wyoming County Schools following concerns involving the operation and leadership of the county school system.
State Superintendent of Schools Michele Blatt recommended that Wyoming County be placed under a 30-day corrective action plan, with the West Virginia Department of Education providing prioritized assistance during that period.
The plan will include additional training for members of the Wyoming County Board of Education and the assignment of a liaison to help address leadership concerns within the school system.
The action follows a report presented to the state board that identified concerns in several areas of the county school system, including board governance, leadership, personnel practices and financial management.
The state Board of Education is expected to review Wyoming County’s progress in December.
Following that review, the board could choose to continue the state of emergency or take more significant action, including immediate state intervention in the operation of Wyoming County Schools.
