BLUEFIELD, W.V (LOOTPRESS) — A Bluefield man is facing multiple charges following an investigation into allegations of domestic violence, sexual assault, and harassment brought forward by his former girlfriend.
On January 9, 2024, a female victim reported to the Bluefield Police Department that her ex-boyfriend, Burr Wilcox, had been harassing her through demeaning text messages and Facebook communications. She also alleged that he was physically stalking her at her workplace. Additionally, she claimed that Wilcox had distributed explicit images of her without her consent.
Authorities requested written statements from her and her current boyfriend. In his statement, the new boyfriend corroborated his girlfriend’s claims, noting that he had also received the explicit images alongside derogatory remarks. She provided further details, stating that the images depicted intimate parts of her body. She also disclosed instances of domestic violence and sexual abuse during her relationship with Wilcox.
During an interview with investigators, she stated that she had lived with Wilcox from April 2024 to November 2024. She described a pattern of coercion in which Wilcox would demand sex from her, and she would comply to avoid further conflict. She further alleged that on at least five occasions, Wilcox forcibly continued intercourse despite her pleas for him to stop. She stated that she had attempted to resist by pushing him away, but Wilcox would restrain her and persist. She expressed that she felt unable to leave the relationship due to Wilcox’s controlling behavior and her fear of him.
The victim also recalled a particularly alarming incident in November 2024 when she attempted to end the relationship. She alleged that Wilcox became enraged and threatened her, stating, “I’ll put you in the ground.”
On January 18, 2025, police conducted an interview with Wilcox at the Bluefield Police Department. After being read his Miranda Rights, Wilcox denied making any threats toward the victim. Initially, he also denied distributing the explicit images but later admitted that he had “taken things a bit too far” and had, in fact, sent out the images and video. Regarding the allegations of sexual assault, Wilcox acknowledged that their sexual encounters were sometimes painful for the victim. He admitted that, despite her requests to stop, he continued on multiple occasions, attributing the issue to medical conditions she was experiencing.
Following this interview, investigators met again with the female victim, who refuted Wilcox’s claims that her medical issues were the reason for her distress. She stated that she had repeatedly tried to discuss his behavior with him, but he refused to engage in conversations about it. She also revealed that she had previously filed domestic battery charges against Wilcox in June 2024, but dropped them after being pressured by him and his family.
As part of the investigation, she provided police with the explicit materials Wilcox had distributed. These included three intimate photographs and a video in which she appeared to be unaware that she was being recorded.
As a result of the investigation, Burr Wilcox has been charged with the following offenses:
- Domestic Battery: Related to the alleged verbal threat made to the victim.
- Four counts of Nonconsensual Disclosure of Private Images: For distributing three explicit photographs and one video.
- Five counts of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree: For engaging in non-consensual sexual acts with the victim.
Authorities have confirmed that the case remains an active investigation. No further details have been released at this time.
