BLUEFIELD, VA (LOOTPRESS) – Bluefield University invites local high school students to compete in a free esports tournament on Saturday, June 7. Participants will have the chance to showcase their skills in Fortnite (solo) and Rocket League (3v3), win exciting prizes, and explore opportunities in collegiate esports.
The event is open to students who completed grades 9 through 12 during the 2024–2025 school year, including recent graduates. The tournament will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with on-site registration beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided, and there is no cost to participate—but advance registration is required at https://forms.gle/iBopdJNR6ZPHzDv18.
Sponsored by GigaBeam Networks, the tournament will supply all necessary gaming equipment, though players may bring their own controllers if preferred. Prizes will be awarded to top performers.
The event celebrates the launch of Bluefield University’s varsity esports program, which is already attracting scholarship student-athletes for competitive play at the collegiate level.
“Esports isn’t just a game—it’s a gateway to college,” said Madison Whisman, head coach of Bluefield’s esports program. “This tournament proves that what students practice at home can pave the way for their future success.”
Beyond competition, the event offers students a hands-on introduction to a fast-growing field that includes scholarships, organized collegiate teams, and potential careers in gaming, communications, and technology.
The tournament will be held on Bluefield University’s main campus. Registered participants will receive full event details prior to the date.
