MILTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A body that was found in a West Virginia fishing pond has been identified.
According to the Milton Police Department (MPD), a man who had been reported as a missing person to the West Virginia State Police Saturday afternoon was discovered by some fishermen in the water of a popular fishing pond across the road from the Milton Little League Park.
Jerred Lee Melton, 42, of Milton was found just before 4 PM Saturday.
Melton’s car was parked in the grass near the edge of the water and Melton was found in the water with a gunshot wound to the head.
Melton has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy however at this time it is believed to be a self-inflicted wound, according to police.
A weapon was recovered near the victim.
“We wish to extend our condolences to the Melton family during this tragic event. Assisting the Milton Police Department was the West Virginia State Police and the Milton Volunteer Fire Department,” the MPD said in a statement.
