MOUNT HOPE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Mount Hope has issued a boil water notice for customers following a water line leak on Main Street that created a probability of water contamination.
According to the notice, the incident occurred on July 5 and affects the entire city water system. Officials said testing has not yet been completed to confirm or rule out the presence of contamination in the water.
Residents are advised not to drink tap water without boiling it first. Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute and then allowed to cool before use. Bottled water may also be used.
The advisory applies to drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing and food preparation until the notice is lifted.
City officials said the leaking water line has been repaired and crews are flushing the system and testing the water for bacteria. The city anticipates resolving the issue within approximately three days but will notify customers when boiling water is no longer necessary.
