Charleston – In a year of firsts for Spring Mills High School boys basketball, now you can add first time state championship game appearance to the list.
After winning its first-ever sectional game, sectional title, region co-final victory and state tournament game win, the Cardinals clamped down on South Charleston in the Class AAAA semifinals Friday for a 59-28 win in the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
Cam Thomas narrowly missed out on a triple-double with 10 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists to pace Spring Mills.
Akwasi Opoku-Achampong had 10 points, while Xavier Anderson scored 10 and had nine rebounds.
The Cardinals controlled the glass with a 36-13 advantage in the win.
South Charleston did not have a player score over six points Friday.
