WASHINGTON, D.C. (LOOTPRESS) – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Jim Justice on Tuesday introduced a resolution honoring two West Virginia National Guard members who were shot while serving in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 26.
U.S. Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom and U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe were targeted and shot in the line of duty, according to the senators. Beckstrom died from her injuries on Thanksgiving Day. Wolfe remains in critical condition.
Capito said the two service members “embody the dedication, courage, and strength that define our West Virginia National Guard,” adding that the Senate resolution shows the nation “stands with Sarah, Andrew, and their families.”
Justice said Beckstrom and Wolfe “represent the very best of our nation,” noting that Beckstrom volunteered to work so others could spend Thanksgiving with their families.
He called her death “the ultimate sacrifice” and said Wolfe continues to fight “with the same grit and courage he’s shown his whole career.”
The senators worked with U.S. Reps. Carol Miller and Riley Moore on companion legislation in the House.
