The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Mid-State Ford, Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele, has returned for the second year.
Below are the candidates for the first week of the boys basketball season. Voting will close Monday at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores and statistics. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com.
- Malachi Lewis, Oak Hill – Lewis averaged 18.7 points per game across the first two weeks of the season, helping the Red Devils to a 2-2 record.
- Bryar Bailes, Nicholas County – Bailes avergaed 14.3 ponis per game over the first two weeks for Grizzlies who picked up a win against Greater Beckley.
- Kris Joyce, Princeton – Joyce averaged 16 points per game across five games, helping Princeton to a 5-0 start to open the season.
- Garrett Mitchell, Wyoming East – Mitchell scored 23 and 21 points in a pair of wins for the Warriors to open the season.
- John Rose, Greater Beckley – Â The Crusaders might be struggling to start the season but Rose has been a bright spot. He’s averaged 31.2 points per game across four contests to open the year.
- Dale Boone, Greenbrier West – Boone has helped fill the scoring void left by Chase McClung, averaging 18.3 points per game across three games for the Cavaliers.
- Goose Gabbert, Greenbrier East – Gabbert averaged 15.6 points per game across three games, hitting the game-winning 3 against rival Beckley. His contributions have helped East to a 2-1 record.
- Matt Light, Midland Trail – Light had showings of 20 and 16 points for the Patriots who are off to a 2-1 start.
- Noah White, Montcalm – White’s been electric for Montcalm, with scoring outputs of 22 and 23 points for the 5-1 Generals.
- R.J. Hairston, Bluefield – Hairston scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in three quarters as Bluefield opened its season with a convincing win over PikeView.
- Sam Boothe, Mercer Christian – Boothe poured in 26 points against Greater Beckley, crossing the 2,000-point threshold for his career in a win.
- Braden Chapman, Shady Spring – Chapman helped the Tigers to a 1-1 split against Class AAAA powers Morgantown and University this past weekend in Morgantown. He scored nine against Morgantown and 26 against University.
- Eli Allen, James Monroe – The leader of the defending Class A state champions picked up where he left off last season. Allen averaged 20 points, 9.4 rebounds, 9.4 assists, 2.8 blocks and 3.2 steals per game for the 5-0 Mavericks.
