The Lootpress Player of the Week Award, sponsored by Mid-State Ford, InShapeWV, Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele, has returned for the second year.
Below are the candidates for the fourth week of the prep football season. Voting will close Monday at midnight. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here.
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores and statistics. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com.
Here are your candidates
- Ty Nickell, Greenbrier West – It was more of the same for the area’s leading rusher this week. Nickell turned 16 carries into 191 yards and five touchdowns in a 61-0 win at Webster County Friday night.
- Layton Dowdy, James Monroe – Dowdy threw for 146 and three touchdowns, adding 94 yards and two more scores on the ground in a 41-0 win over Meadow Bridge.
- Dalton Williams, Liberty – Williams carried the ball 23 times, accumulating 180 yards and three touchdowns as Liberty earned a 30-20 win over Sherman, its first of the season.
- Drake Cole, Summers County – Cole rushed 17 times for 208 yards and four touchdowns in Summers’ 52-20 win over Mount View Friday in Hinton.
- Peyton Greer, PikeView – Nursing a shoulder injury, Greer threw for 84 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 125 yards and two more scores in Pikeview’s 27-0 win at Westside.
- Matt Moore, Beckley – Moore was huge part of Beckley’s comeback win Friday, rushing for 155 yards in a 30-27 win over Bluefield.
- Judah Price, Independence – Price had the best game of his career Friday, rushing 16 times for 242 yards and six touchdowns while catching two passes for 84 yards and another score. For good measure he converted on seven two-point attempts to bring his scoring total to 56 points on the night.
- Kaleb Clark, Nicholas County – In a big road win at Lincoln, Clark ran the ball 36 times for 159 yards and a score in a 24-21 victory.
- Jaden Gladwell, Midland Trail – Gladwell was 9-of-13 passing Friday for 201 yards, tossing four touchdowns in Trail’s win over Richwood.
- Alex Baxter, Oak Hill – Baxter scored one touchdown in Oak Hill’s win over Lincoln County but was key as a blocker, creating opportunities for his teammates while also standing out on defense from his linebacker position.
