Here are your candidates
- Layton Dowdy, James Monroe – Nobody had a better 96-hour stretch this week than James Monroe quarterback Layton Dowdy. In two games played, the sophomore QB was a combined 16-of-26 for 400 yards, tossing five touchdowns. More importantly he helped the Mavericks to shutout victories over Class AA PikeView and previously undefeated Greenbrier West.
- Ethan Vargo-Thomas, Oak Hill – Vargo-Thomas did it all again, rushing 14 times for 91 yards and a touchdown, completing two passes for 38 yards and another touchdown and catching a 17-yard pass. The end result was a 26-13 win over Greenbrier East that keeps Oak Hill’s playoff hopes alive.
- Duke Dodson, Summers County – Dodson exploded for the best game of his career Friday against Sherman. The senior rushed 13 times for 154 and six touchdowns to go along with four catches for 55 yards and a seventh score in a 54-7 win on homecoming.
- Caleb Fuller, Bluefield – Fuller threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores, guiding Bluefield to a 48-34 win over county foe PikeView on Friday. The 48 points were a season-high for the Beavers.
- Jackson Danielson, Wyoming East – Danielson bested last week’s career performance on homecoming. The junior quarterback was 9-of-15 passing for 159 yards and three touchdowns. As a runner he carried the ball 10 times for 199 yards and three more scores. For good measure he also intercepted a pass on defense in a 43-18 win against Richwood.
- Cody Harrell, Midland Trail – Harrell was held to four yards receiving in last week’s loss to Nicholas County. He made up for that performance Friday, catching six passes for 118 yards and three touchdowns in a 44-14 win over Class AA Liberty. He also rushed four times for 24 yards and a touchdown.
- Kaleb Clark, Nicholas County – As steady as they come, Clark was at it again Friday, rushing 16 times for 164 yards and three touchdowns in Nicholas County’s 51-0 win over Braxton County.
