The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Mid-State Ford, Little General, Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele, has returned for the second year.
Below are the candidates for the 11th week of the boys basketball season. Voting will close Friday, March 10 at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here.
If the the top vote getter has already won a community choice poll, the next leading vote getter who has not won will be named that week’s community choice winner.
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores and statistics. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com.
- Cole Chapman, Shady Spring – Chapman helped engineer a pair of 100-point games for the Tigers, scoring 17 in the sectional championship against PikeView.
- Ethan Vargo-Thomas, Oak Hill – Vargo-Thomas averaged 13 points for game, helping the Red Devils score a pair of road wins as the No. 4 seed, earning a home regional game.
- Brayden McClung, Greenbrier West – McClung scored 20 points as the Cavs beat Meadow Bridge to earn a spot in the sectional championship.
- Caleb Fuller, Bluefield – Fuller averaged 19.5 points per game, scoring 26 in a win over Summers County. His contributions helped the Beavers win the sectional championship against Wyoming East.
- Nathan Riffe, PikeView -Riffe hellend PikeView earn its forts sectional win since 2016 in an overtime victory against Midland Trial. He hitting the tying 3 in regulation with 10 seconds left and scored seven of his teams 11 points in the extra period. He finished the game with 18 points.
- Garrett Mitchell, Wyoming East – Mitchell scored 22 points as the Warriors topped rival Westside in the sectional opener at the Brushfork Armory.
- Eli Allen, James Monroe – Allen scored 27 points for the Mavericks who dominated River View on their path back to the state tournament.
