The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Mid-State Ford, Little General, Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele, has returned for the second year.
Below are the candidates for the seventh week of the boys basketball season. Voting will close Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here

- Ammar Maxwell, Shady Spring – Maxwell erupted for a season-high 32 points and 10 rebounds as Shady avenged a loss in last year’s title game with an 85-65 win over No. 1 Fairmont Senior.
- Will Looney, Bluefield – Looney averaged 20 points per game for the Class AA Beavers who earned victories against Class AAAA Oak Hill and Greenbrier East.
- Malachi Lewis, Oak Hill – Lewis averaged a touch under 20 points per game for the Red Devils this past week, pouring in 29 in an OT loss to Beckley.
- Sam Boothe, Mercer Christian – Boothe was stellar this past week with three 20-point outings including a 28-point showing against Greenbrier West.
- Goose Gabbert, Greenbrier East – Gabbert helped East to a 1-1 week with a 28-point showing in an OT loss at Bluefield and 11 points against regional for South Charleston.
- Noah White, Montcalm – White averaged 18 points per game for the Generals this past week who notched. win over Twin Valley.
- Josh Burks, James Monroe – Burks was good for 12.5 points per game on top of his standard defensive performances as the Mavericks rolled to a 2-0 mark this week.
- Bryar Bailes, Nicholas County – Bailes scored in double figures twice this week for the Grizzlies who finished 2-1. He scored 21 in a loss at Liberty.
- Matt Light, Midland Trail – Light continued his scoring tear for the Patriots, eclipsing the 20-point mark twice with a 28-point showing.
- John Rose, Greater Beckley – Rose didn’t slow down this week, breaking the 20-point barrier twice with a 30-point showing against Mount Hope Christian.
- Kris Joyce, Princeton – Joyce showed out on senior night, dropping 27 points on county foe PikeView.
- Zack Bowman, Liberty – Bowman had a big 16-point performance for the Raiders a game after they lost starting guard Ethan Williams to a knee injury. His performance helped Liberty top Nicholas County
- Elijah Redfern, Beckley – Redfern erupted for 30 points against Oak Hill, hitting the tying shot that sent the game into OT where the Flying Eagles eventually won.
- David Thomas, PikeView – Thomas averaged 14 points per game for the Panthers, helping them earn a bounce back win at Westside after a tough loss at Princeton.
- Cruz Testerman, Summers County – Testerman dropped 23 points as Summers earned an impressive home win over Greenbrier West.
- Cole Lambert Wyoming East – Lambert was steady this week with 16 points and six assists in wins against Greenbrier West and Mingo Central.
