GREENSBORO, NC (LOOTPRESS) – The Greensboro Police Department is grieving the loss of Officer Michael Horan, who was killed in the line of duty on the morning of December 19, 2024. Chief MJ Harris addressed the community in an emotional statement honoring Officer Horan’s life and service.
“Officer Horan was a husband, father, son, friend, and an excellent officer,” Chief Harris said. “He had an outstanding reputation within the department and the community. We ask that you keep his family, friends, and fellow officers in your thoughts and prayers.”
Officer Horan joined the Greensboro Police Department in 2018 after graduating from the 103 PBIC Academy. Assigned to the Patrol Bureau in District 4, Squad A, he was known for his dedication, professionalism, and compassion in serving the community.
Incident Details
Officer Horan responded to a call around 11 a.m. regarding a man with a firearm inside the Food Lion located in the 4700 block of Lawndale Drive. During the incident, a shooting occurred, fatally wounding Officer Horan.
The suspect was quickly apprehended, and authorities have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. The circumstances leading to the shooting are under investigation, with the State Bureau of Investigation taking the lead.
