PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Princeton has taken a significant step toward relocating its Police Department. On December 20, the City Council approved a Letter of Conditions from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to unlock $657,000 in grant funding. This grant, made possible through a Congressional Appropriation by Senators Shelly Moore Capito and Joe Manchin in the 2024 Federal Budget, marks the beginning of a transformative project for the city.
The funds will support the relocation of the Police Department to the Municipal Complex on Bee Street. Governor Jim Justice has also pledged a dollar-for-dollar match of the grant, doubling the available resources to $1,314,000. With this combined funding, the city will begin construction on critical portions of the new headquarters, including administrative offices, conference rooms, and restrooms.
“This project represents a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local partners,” said a city spokesperson. “We are incredibly grateful for the support that made this possible.”
Future Plans and Community Support
While the initial funding will cover a portion of the project, future additions to the Police Department will be constructed as further resources become available. The long-term goal is to create a state-of-the-art facility that meets the growing needs of the community.
The project’s success would not have been possible without a generous land donation from the Preservati Family Charitable Trust Foundation. Local leaders have also highlighted the crucial roles played by Senator Capito, Senator Manchin, and Governor Justice in securing financial support.
“This is a shining example of what can be achieved when communities and governments work together,” said Mayor David Graham.
As Princeton begins this new chapter, the city is optimistic about how the enhanced facility will strengthen public safety and better serve residents. Construction is expected to start soon, with updates on progress to follow.
