FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Coal-Mac MET, LLC has submitted an application to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Division of Mining and Reclamation, seeking approval for a new mining operation in Fayette County.
The company is requesting an Article 3 permit to conduct surface, highwall, and auger mining across approximately 976.51 acres.

The proposed mining operation would extract coal from multiple seams, including the 2 Gas–Kanawha, Campbell Creek–Lower Kanawha, Eagle–Kanawha, Eagle–Little Kanawha, Eagle A–Kanawha, Hernshaw–Kanawha, Peerless–Kanawha, Powellton–Kanawha, and Williamson–Kanawha seams.
According to the application, the site is located about 2.7 miles southeast of Robson in the Valley District of Fayette County, at longitude 81° 12’ 20” and latitude 38° 05’ 20”.
The operation would discharge into several waterways, including unnamed tributaries of Coleman Branch, Mulberry Fork, Dempsey Branch, and ultimately Loop Creek of the Kanawha River.
The DEP has announced that written comments or requests for an informal conference on the application will be accepted until October 4, 2025, or thirty days from the date of final publication.
Comments must identify the applicant and application number and be sent to the Permit Supervisor at the DEP’s Division of Mining and Reclamation office, located at 1159 Nick Rahall Greenway, Fayetteville, WV 25840.
