Glenville – Concord dropped its season opener Thursday, falling 17-10 to Glenville State on the road at Morris Stadium.
Trailing 10-3 in the fourth quarter, Concord quarterback Jack Mangel found wide receiver Jarod Bowie for a 21-yard scoring strike to tie the game but the Pioneers responded on their following drive when quarterback Timoth Heltzel found Tre Gulley for a 25-yard touchdown, capping a four-play drive that ate up just under two minutes.
Bowie was the highlight for the CU offense, catching 15 passes for 204 yards and a score while Tywan Pearce added six catches for 101 yards.
Glenville’s Javon Butler led the Pioneers with 11 catches for 147 yards.
Concord starts the season 0-1 and will return home Sept. 18 when it hosts West Virginia Wesleyan.
