FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Commission convened for its regular session on Wednesday during which proposed compensation increases were approved for employees of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
The change follows those approved during the final Fayette County Commission meeting of August, which saw compensation adjustments and the expedition of Deputy promotional paths presented to commission members. The issue of compensation for employees in the sheriff’s office’s including tax deputies and secretarial staff was tabled for consideration and was presented on the agenda once more on Wednesday.
The increase, requested by Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley, totals at $45,975 for the budget following adjustments to employee benefits packages. Sheriff Fridley indicated during the presentation of the revisited agenda item that the reworked offer would ultimately save $5,000 on the pertinent budget line.
Sheriff Fridley on Wednesday also discussed intentions to facilitate the hiring of a new employee for the Fayette County Animal Control Department at $12.00 per hour. This follows an on-the-job injury sustained by current animal control officer Michelle, who is currently in recovery.
This new hiring would fill an already-open budget slot and would partially relieve Fayette County law enforcement of being required to facilitate animal control throughout the county while continuing to serve in their primary functions as officers of the law.
Sheriff Fridley indicated that a pre-employment screening process including background check and driver’s license check is expected to take place later in the day on Wednesday.
