FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia American Water is beginning a $512,000 infrastructure upgrade project along Fayette Avenue in Fayetteville.
The project will replace approximately 1,040 feet of aging water pipe with a new 6-inch PVC main. Work will take place along Fayette Avenue from Sarah Street to Huse Street.
“This Fayette Avenue infrastructure upgrade project is part of our ongoing investments for the Fayetteville community,” said Scott Wyman, President of West Virginia American Water. “This upgrade project is critical to help continue providing safe, clean and reliable water to the community.”
The project is expected to be completed by the end of October, with final street restoration scheduled for fall 2026.
Crews will work from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Traffic restrictions will be in place throughout the project.
West Virginia American Water said customers could experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water or lower-than-normal water pressure while construction is underway. Crews will work to minimize the duration of those disruptions.
The Fayetteville project is part of more than $129 million West Virginia American Water plans to invest in infrastructure upgrades across the state during 2026.
According to the company, economic impact studies show that up to 10 jobs are generated throughout local economies for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure.
West Virginia American Water said it has invested more than $805 million in infrastructure projects and capital upgrades across West Virginia over the past decade, including the installation of more than 168 miles of new water main.
Customers experiencing water-related emergencies, including leaks, main breaks or other service disruptions, can submit a service request through West Virginia American Water’s website.
