BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission convened on Tuesday for their Regular Session which saw the issuance of a number of approvals and proclamations, as well as recognition of the Independence Patriot wrestlers as AA Runner Up Champions.
Budget revisions were discussed early on in the session, with motions passed to facilitate an increase of the county’s community based corrections – day report – program by $77,000, along with transfers of other funds to receive funds and reimbursement from the program. These changes amounted to a budget increase totalling $207,000, funds of which will purportedly all be reimbursable.
Funds amounting to $54,000 were also transferred from the $490,000 county water account to three different lines. These were Community Development Funds – which were utilized to disperse water to Raleigh County residents during the extended water shortage situation in January – Raleigh County EOC, and Public Transit.
Specifically, $50,000 was approved for transfer from the county water account to community development, $24,000 to EOC, and $3,500 to public transit.
The hiring of the newest employee of the Raleigh County Assessor’s Office, Deputy Assessor, Tamara Hoyle, was approved by the commission on Tuesday, as was the Fair Housing Proclamation which states in part “that discrimination in the sale, rental, leasing, or financing of housing or land to be used for construction of housing or in the provision of brokerage services because of race, color, religion, sex or national origin is prohibited by Title 8 of the 1968 Civil Rights Act – Federal Fair Housing Law.”
The proclamation as read by Raleigh County Administrator Jay Quesenberry continues,
“It is the policy of the Raleigh County Commission to implement programs to ensure equal opportunity in housing for all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. The Fair Housing Amendment Act of 1988 expands coverage to include disabled persons and families with children. Further, the Raleigh County Commission proclaims April as Fair Housing Month within the county and shall encourage owners of real estate, developers, and builders to become aware of their respective responsibilities and the rights under the Federal Fair Housing law and amendments.”
A proclamation recognizing the Independence Patriot Wrestlers for being AA Runner Up Champions was also approved, with members of the team receiving commemorative plaques for their achievements.
Approval of AML Drawdown Number 9 for $423,403.28 for the White Oak Water Project was passed as well, along with approval of AML Drawdown Number 12 for $1500 for the Clearfork Rail to Trail Project and approval of administrative agreement number 1 for Clearfork Rail to Trail Project.
