BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Tuesday’s meeting of the Raleigh County Commission kept a brisk pace in cycling through agenda items for the regular session.
New employment was broached following budget revision discussions, and William Joseph Crst was presented for approval by the commission at Raleigh County Fire Coordinator.
Having passed all required background checks and having previously been employed with the county, the commission were quick to approve the motion and welcome Mr. Crist aboard.
Later, Dave Gentry saw reappointment by the commission to Deputy Sheriff Civil Service Commission, in a term which would extend through 8/7/26.
Policy discussions saw the adoption of an emergency ballot policy. This policy, described as “the same policy we adopt before every election,” which purportedly states that “if somebody ends up in the hospital or somewhere and can’t come out to vote, that [the ballot] will go to the hospital they request.”
This policy change saw approval from the commission, as did redistricting precinct and polling location changes.
These changes were posted in the local news on June 24 and July 1 with no change requests made or issues presented.
Finally, the commission passed a motion for agenda item 5.6 – the approval of a new Building Code Ordinance.
“We’re going to adopt a new state building code into our county building code ordinance,” it was explained. “It’s going to go from the 2015 code cycles to 2018 generally, there [are] a few exceptions. The residential code will go to 2015, the NEC will go to 2020 to 2017, and the life safety code will go from 2018 to 2021 – this is per the state building code.”
