ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University’s Mountain Lions football team will face off against Bluefield State in a season opener event dubbed The Boggess Bowl.
The matchup will see the two teams going head-to-head for the first time since 1979.
Scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, the game will open the final football season with Concord President, Dr. Kendra Boggess leading the institution as president. As such, the event has been dubbed The Boggess Bowl and will also serve as a celebration of Concord Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day.
With regard to the long-anticipated matchup, Concord University Mountain Lions Coach, Brian Ferguson says there will be less of an emphasis on specific opponents throughout the season and more of a focus on adhering the team’s philosophy of “fast, physical discipline with character,” stating,
“We’re going to go out there and, it doesn’t matter who it is, we’re going to go play as hard as we can play.”
Tailgate is set to begin at 11:00am with kickoff following in the afternoon at 1:00pm. Following what is being called “the Mercer County showdown,” the Mountain Lions will take on Frostburg State later this month on September 21, 2024, at 1:00pm.
