ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University has announced that the Concord University Counseling Center has received funds for multiple programs supporting mental health awareness.
The funds, awarded by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC), will go toward supporting The Concord Connect: Building Belonging initiative and The Workforce and Campus Mental Health initiative, respectively.
The Concord Connect: Building Belonging initiative has been designed to establish and nurture a sense of inclusion and community among Concord University students. “Through various activities, mentorship opportunities, and support networks, the program aims to create lasting connections and ensure every student feels valued and integrated into the university family,” said Concord of the initiative.
The grant has enabled the university to establish two distinct meditation/mindfulness areas along with a more substantial partnership with the CU Campus Recovery Program and university events like Low Tech Connect and Sober Halloween.
Faculty, staff, and students continue to receive opportunities through the counseling center with regard to mental health practices and best practices as outlined by the American Council on Education.
The Workforce and Campus Mental Health grant will go toward the funding of a twenty-four-seven Crisis Response service. This service will offer telehealth services to members of the campus community as a means of compounding resources made available through the Concord University Counseling Center and of providing support for the behavioral health workforce and future workforce of the state.
The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission has teamed with BetterMynds to offer the free online telehealth, therapy services, and wellbeing workshops to members of the Concord University student community.
These resources will provide support and assistance for students as they navigate the challenges of pursuing an advanced degree, including time away from loved ones, economic struggles, and the prioritizing and balancing of campus and off-campus responsibilities.
