ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University has announced Dr. Bethany Meighen as its next president.
The announcement was made to students and staff Friday morning ahead of a 10 a.m. introduction by the Concord University Board of Governors that is being held in the Pais Fellowship Hall of University Point.
Dr. Meighen will officially begin her term on July 1, succeeding current president Dr. Kendra Boggess, who shared the news with students and staff in a campus-wide email.
“It is with great excitement that I share an important and inspiring update regarding the presidential search,” Dr. Boggess wrote. “Dr. Meighen’s appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with promise, opportunity, and momentum for our University.”
Dr. Meighen currently serves as the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at the University of North Carolina (UNC) System.
As the chief student affairs officer, she provides strategic leadership on student success initiatives across 17 campuses, including oversight of policies related to admissions, financial aid, student development, and health services.
Her career in higher education began at the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where she first worked as a graduate assistant in Student Life before becoming Director of Alumni Relations.
The role was personally meaningful to Meighen, whose mother is a graduate of Morris Harvey College, the institution’s former name.
She holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Charleston and earned her doctorate in education (Ed.D.) from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Dr. Boggess encouraged the campus community to welcome Dr. Meighen warmly, stating, “Her leadership will guide Concord into a vibrant future, and I know she will find a community here that is passionate, supportive, and ready to move forward together.”
Current President Dr. Kendra Boggess announced her retirement in July of 2024.
