ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Concord University will welcome Dr. James Ingram, Associate Professor at Northern Arizona University, as the guest speaker for the 2025 Research Festival on Friday, April 18. The event will take place in the Jean & Jerry L. Beasley Student Center’s State Room and Ballroom.
Dr. Ingram’s research focuses on supporting teens with disabilities as they transition from structured school environments into adulthood. His keynote address will begin at noon.
The festival schedule includes:
• 9 a.m. – Noon: Opening remarks and oral presentations
• Noon: Dr. Ingram’s keynote address
• Noon – 3 p.m.: Graduate and professional fair
• 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: Poster session
Hosted by the McNair Scholars and Psychology programs, the annual Research Festival highlights the academic achievements of Concord students. Participants will showcase their research through oral and poster presentations while engaging with faculty, peers, and visiting representatives from regional institutions across West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina.

• April 3: Hip-hop and spoken-word artist Shy Amos, known as ShySpeaks, will perform CivilizedX in the Student Center Ballroom from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Dallas native, ShySpeaks is recognized for her soulful voice, thought-provoking lyrics, and dynamic performances that bridge culture, creativity, and community empowerment.
• April 16: The Spring Career Fair and Teacher Recruitment Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. The event offers employers an opportunity to recruit students for internships, externships, and full-time positions, particularly targeting upcoming spring graduates.
• April 17: The West Virginia Dance Company will perform at 6 p.m. in the Main Theater of the Alexander Fine Arts Center. The program will feature new works from four choreographers and two original compositions.
