CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A contractor was killed early Saturday morning in a work zone accident on Interstate 64 East near Huntington.
The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2025, near mile marker 17.

The victim was employed by Triton Construction Inc. and was working as part of an active highway project.
“Triton is deeply saddened to confirm that a member of our construction team was fatally injured while performing work on I-64 as part of an active highway construction project,” said Jason Hunter, vice president of construction for Triton Construction.
“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the employee’s family, friends, and co-workers during this incredibly difficult time,” Hunter said.
“We have reached out to the family and are offering our full support, including counseling and other resources, to help them and our team members cope with this tragedy.”
“Safety is our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with authorities and the WVDOH as they investigate the circumstances of this incident. Out of respect for the ongoing investigation, and the family’s privacy, we will not be providing additional details at this time.”
I-64 remained closed for about three hours while authorities investigated.
